Opened in 2013, The Shard has been a landmark for its jagged top and the tallest skyscraper in UK. Honestly, I did not know the top is an open-air sky deck till I looked up. That explained the breeze and sunlight.
Besides the tallest observatory in town, The Shard is also home to many companies, retails, a Shangri-la hotel, restaurants, and bars. It has total of 95 floors with observatory on level 72 (though it felt higher). One of the cool things that you can do at the Top is taking a mixology class at the champagne bar.
So, what do you see from the Top of The Shard? Most of London town. You see River Thames (of course), Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Tower of London, London Eye, Millennium Bridge (where HP film was shot), St. Paul Cathedral, the Walkie-Talkie building(even from the restroom too), HMS Belfast, City Hall, to list a few.
Ticket price goes from £25 to £999 per person. So, £25 is the standard entry ticket. The Shard offers additional services for different needs, such as Fast Entry, Guide, Champagne, photo ops, and private services. That's what £999 is for. But, really, if you only want to see the view, just a standard ticket is fine. You'll be looking at the same views as those spending £999.
However, I do recommend that you check weather forecast before booking. Weather in London can be foggy at times. Better check than sorry.
It's very simple to get there, just take the Tube to London Bridge Station. (Northern line, Jubilee line, Circle line, District line)
Don't forget to check out the restroom before you leave. The funny looking white building is nicknamed the Walkie Talkie building. It's famous for its unique shape and Sky Garden on top. Admission to Sky Garden is free. From there, you can take a good photo of The Shard.
