Seafood in Borough Market

There's more than just seafood in Borough Market but that was all we ate. Well, we probably tried other things too, I just don't remember. Borough Market is the oldest food market in London. Started 1,000 years ago at the foot of London Bridge till it was moved to where it is now in 1756. Now, the Borough Market sits on Southwark Street, only a few blocks away from London Bridge, near London Bridge Station.

We walked around the market first when we got there. There are retails, pubs, fresh produce, hot food stands, seafood vendors, deli shops, dry goods, cheese shops, sweets, bakery, the list goes on. There were some kabab stands and Scottish egg, but we weren't there for those.

Borough Market is so close to The Shard, you can see it very easily. I think we walked from The Shard after observatory. It was a little past noon and already people were drinking in the pubs.

Oh yea, we got seafood paella from one vendor. It tasted okay. So we got more oysters from other stands. There were a couple of them at an intersection inside the market. They all had similar prices and fresh seafood. The guy at the counter can open oyster and clam for you after ordering. There are many varieties of oysters and clams to chose from. For the most part, you can mix and match for a combination price. Condiments (lemon wedges, vinegar, hot sauce) are all included. We had a couple rounds of those because they were truly fresh and tasty. I don't think they'd cook one of those cuttlefish for you, if that's what you are getting.

Not far from seafood, there was a hot wine stand. I got a small cup of it and it tasted interesting, in my opinion. It was hot, sweet and tangy, like hot grape juice.

One of the oyster had a small pearl and we got to keep it.
